Want to Hold a Pumpkin?
Sometimes it’s difficult for a photographer to spend only 5-6 minutes with a family/child…they don’t know who I am, they don’t trust me, they are being thrust into a situation where mom/dad, grandma/grandpa are telling them to smile for the camera and be happy. There are tricks that most photographers will try to gain quick trust – get down to the child’s level and look them in the eye, take an interest in them by asking them their name and how old they are, and talk sweetly to them, asking them to come and sit down in a certain spot. With most kids this is enough, but not all. For those extra few that are a bit more cautious of who I am, the perfect transition question was “would you like to hold a pumpkin”? You should see how their eyes lit up – they get to choose their OWN pumpkin?! Why yes, I’ll come sit down on your metal bucket with my pumpkin, their eyes delightfully portray! And with that…I”m off to the races getting some really genuine expressions from kids who have only met me for 5 minutes!
Being at the Jungle Farm was an incredible honour. The Fall Festival is a long standing tradition on the Farm as they wind down the summer crop season and celebrate the many successes the farm has had in growing fruits and vegetables throughout the warm season. They had put their trust in me to meet the needs of their clients on this special day, many who come back every year to enjoy the Festival and get their photos taken! The hours went by incredibly fast as we photographed over 50 families in six hours! The weather was beautiful, right up until 30 minutes before closing when a sprinkling of rain started to fall. Everyone was in great spirits and enjoying some valuable family time together.
I enjoyed meeting so many families and feel very special that they would take the time to use my services and capture this fun (and utterly gorgeous) time of year! For those of you who don’t regularly get photos taken, I hope that you will make this a priority in the months and years to come. Kids grow up so fast, don’t let those years go by without documenting how precious and tiny they are.
Happy Fall Everyone!
