A Bright and Crisp Family Session
Their Portrait Session at the Bow Valley Ranche and Fish Creek Park
We spent Sunday, November 27th, with the Cunningham family in Fish Creek Park for a fun family session. We met up at the beautiful and historic Bow Valley Ranche Restaurant inside the park. The house itself is over a century old, built as part of a massive cattle ranch on the edge of the river. It has undergone many restorations over the years to re-establish its former glory. It now operates as a beautiful fine dining restaurant.
We began with some shots by the red barn at the Bow Valley Ranche. We set the family against the bright backdrop. We brought out a curved wooden chair and set a white blanket upon it, which really popped against the red barn. We even got the family dog to look our way, and snapped the shot quickly while the puppy posed for us! Another added bonus of the day was the lack of snow outside, which as any Albertan knows, is lucky for late November!
Next, we headed down right into Fish Creek Park, the second largest urban park in Canada. We found a great spot amongst the trees, and settled in to get some wonderful shots of the family. The sunlight was hitting the trees in such a way that they lit up bright and golden, and the long warm shadows added some great texture to the backdrop.
It was a bit of a chilly day, but despite the cold, the family all wore nice warm smiles. The boys were getting a little cold, but their mom cheered them up with a string of fun and silly faces that made them laugh. We took a bunch of different combinations of photos: a few of the boys together, some individual shots, and some of mom and dad together. The boys looked adorable in their matching leather jackets. We brought the curved chair out again, this time setting a burgundy fleece on top. The boys climbed up into it together, which made for really great shots of the two of them, all smiles.
