The Mitchell Portrait Session at Rideau Park
To celebrate Amelia’s first birthday, Diana, Troy, and the birthday girl met us for a family photo shoot. We had the pleasure of photographing Diana and Troy at their wedding in August, and jumped at the chance to spend another session with them.
After Amelia’s birthday party, the family joined us in Rideau Park along the winding Elbow River. The area was heavily damaged in Calgary’s 2013 floods, but it has since been restored to its former glory. The weather was perfect as well, with bright afternoon sun and crisp golden leaves to light up the shots.
Amelia was an excellent model and was such fun to photograph as she gave us big smiles and baby giggles. She was in high spirits all day, sharing cute expressions, wiggling/dancing, and sticking out her tongue for the camera.
We started their family portrait session in an open grassy area, on a picnic blanket, where we served Amelia a little snack. Diana and Troy put a pink flower headband on their daughter, who let us get a few shots with it before she took it off. We next moved to a concrete bench for a more formal feel and alternated between individual shots and groupings. Then, the family changed into their Calgary Flames jerseys to show off their team colors.
To wrap up the session, we photographed Diana, Troy, and Amelia walking together down the pathway. Amelia, who is just beginning to walk assisted, held the hands of her parents. It was a special moment to witness, and we were honored to memorialize their first walk as a family.
It was lovely to see Diana, Troy, and Amelia for their family portrait session, and we hope they love their images as much as we loved capturing them!
