A Good-Spirited Family Session
We met the entire family at the Event Core Studio in Calgary, where we got ready to sit the family for their group session. The building wasn’t due to be open for another week, so we were given the opportunity to shoot in their big event space. This was absolutely perfect to photograph a family of sixteen. This was our first chance to shoot at the studio where we will be shooting our portraits sessions from here on out.
The family consisted of Grandma and Grandpa, their four sons and their wives, and their six grandchildren. Everyone was very good-natured and we had a total blast at the session. We spent around two and a half hours photographing the Campbell family. It was such a large group, and we set up a bunch of different groupings and parings. We shot the grandparents with their sons, with their grandkids, moms with their kids, dads with their kids, and even the grandkids on their own. We took individual shots of everyone, and even deviated from posing to grab a few shots of family members just interacting with each other.
We kept the shoot relatively simple. We set the family against a large white wall upon a large white sofa to really feature them as a family. We wanted to highlight the moments they shared together at the shoot, with no distractions. They all dressed in coordinating colors of teal, blue, and black which really made them stand out from the backdrop.
It was fun that the family all got together to share the afternoon. After the session the whole group headed out for a family dinner together.
