Family Mini Sessions at the Bow Valley Ranch in Fish Creek Park
We spent a lovely Sunday afternoon with two families for our mini sessions. We headed down to the Bow Valley Ranch area of Fish Creek Park, which is a great location for a shoot. The Bow Valley Ranch was a working ranch four generations before becoming the centrepiece of the sprawling Fish Creek Park in central Calgary. The century old ranch house forms an interesting focal point for the park. The gorgeous foliage and streams that form the park surround it. This beautiful spot makes the perfect place for family sessions, so it was easy to settle on a location!
The weather was beautiful, the air just getting crisp. The leaves were just beginning to turn, a few fallen ones scattered amongst the grass. We kept the shoot fairly simple with fall inspired props: leaves, red flowers, a wicker basket, and a fleecy blanket.
The Wright Family
We began with the Wright family: Erin, Cam, their daughter Jocelyn, and their dog Daisy. Jocelyn didn’t seem too thrilled with having her picture taken, but her mood changed whenever we brought the dog into the shot! As a result we got some really cute shots of Jocelyn and Daisy together! We shot the Wright’s in all combinations: Erin reading to Jocelyn, Erin and Cam together, Cam playing with Jocelyn, and the whole family together. We took a few solo shots of Jocelyn sitting in the basket before wrapping up with her and Daisy playing in the grass.

The Hrnjic Family
In our second session of the day, we photographed Mina, Dino, and their adorable daughter Ayla. She was very sleepy and wanted her soother, but we managed to get a few shots without it! We worked their session pretty quickly so she could get some sleep! First we sat the family on the fleece blanket and took a few group shots. We then moved to Dino holding Ayla, then Mina holding her. We got a few smiles out of Ayla before finishing the session with the family of three standing amongst the trees.
