A Fresh Air Family Portrait Session at Sandy Beach
We met the Martin family on a beautiful morning at Sandy Beach Park along the meandering Elbow River. Tara and Brent gathered up their children Rowan and Elise for a family portrait session along the rocky banks of the river. The beach is one of the best in the city of Calgary, so we took advantage of the weather and went right down to the river’s edge. From there, the backdrop is of steep banks, trickling water, and golden trees. Even though there were wind warnings for the day, we lucked out. Instead of the blustery breeze, we experienced a beautiful and serene morning! The sun was just beginning to peek out over the edge of the river basin as we arrived.
The kids were incredibly cooperative for the session, and the energy was high in the fresh morning air. Rowan was excited by the pebbles strewn along the shore, so we began with a few shots of him and his dad throwing rocks into the water.
We shifted focus to Tara and Elise under the trees. Baby Elise was bundled up tightly against the chill, in an adorable pink cable knit sweater and a pompom toque.
Rowan ran over to give his little sister a big hug, and we used the adorable moment to shift into family photos. We started by photographing the four together, then rotated through different combinations. The young family played along the banks, walked hand-in-hand along the paths, and reunited for a few more group shots before we wrapped up the session. After the portrait session, Brent and Rowan were off to soccer practice! Even with all the play, he still had tons of energy!
We had a lovely day with the Martin family, and we hope they love their images as much as we enjoyed photographing them!
