A Gorgeous Family Day at Lake Louise
For the Leung family session, we headed out to Lake Louise in pleasant weather. The day before the shoot, Andreana had called us, in desperate need to find a photographer after the session with theirs fell through. We were fortunate to get the opportunity to join them in the National Park for a gorgeous session.
Andreana and Eddie, along with their two sons Pierce and Paxton, were up visiting from California. Her brother Weta, his wife Pauline, and their son Jeremy joined them. Weta runs the family steel business in Indonesia, taking over after their father Ardi retired. Ardi and Lily, Andreana and Weta’s parents, joined in for the shoot as well, taking advantage of their once-a-year reunions to get some great group shots.
They were all full of energy, and a fun family to photograph. Ardi was interested in how we set up the backlight since photography used to be a hobby of his.
Into the Forest
We started off the session deep in the forest at Lake Louise, with Andreana, Eddie, and their boys. We photographed them as they walked along the path, on their way to connect with the rest of the family. Pierce and Paxton were all smiles as they climbed atop their dad’s shoulders. They were both adorable bundles of energy, happy to be in the woods.
Out on the Lake
Once we reunited with Ardi, Lily, Weta, Pauline, and Jeremy, we all headed out behind the canoe building out on a dock overlooking the lake. From behind the building, it was easier to beat the gathering crowds. From our vantage point, we got some great family group shots with the glacier in the background.
When the kids first met up, it was clear that Jeremy was a little shyer than the other two, but once they all got playing, there were tons of smiles and lots of laughter.
With the family, we went for a walk around to the far side of the lake, where we found an outcropping of the path with a slate wall, which gave us a great backdrop. With the locations we chose, you wouldn’t know there were hundreds of people around the lake. We did our best to eliminate the crowds in the shots and to make it seem like the family were the only ones out that day.
A Dandelion Field
On the walk back to the chateau, we came across a field of dandelions. Despite their status as a weed, the bright yellow flowers gave us a gorgeous vibrant backdrop for photos of the boys. They picked little bouquets of dandelions, smiles on their faces.
We let the families play with the boys, and photographed in a candid style while they picked flowers, swung the boys around, and looked out at the landscape. It was evident that this family was overjoyed to be together, and we were so happy to be part of their day.
We wrapped up with a shot of the grandparents with their grandkids on a bench, huge smiles on all their faces. Then, they were off to spend the rest of their day together.
We had a beautiful day with Ardi and Lily; Andreana and Eddie; Weta and Pauline; and Pierce, Paxton, and Jeremy.
