A Family Photo Shoot in Traditional Dress
We met up with the Menoth family at their home in Calgary for a quick family session. The purpose of the photoshoot was twofold – to celebrate Vrinda and Sajeev’s 25th wedding anniversary and to photograph the family together before their eldest daughter, Sharanya, heads off to the University of Ontario in the fall.
Over 20 years ago, the family emigrated from India, and after moving around for a while, they settled in Canada in 2006. Ever since they left India, they’ve never had a photoshoot in their traditional Indian dress, so this was the perfect opportunity. The women each wore a different colour – Vrinda in gold and her daughters Sharanya, Tapasya, and Lavanya in blue, teal, and red respectively.
The Menoth home was a perfect place for the session, with beautiful woodwork features, a large entryway, and gorgeous antique tufted sofas. We began the shoot with the family in the living area on one of the tufted sofas, the girls seated and their parents on either side of them. We took a few different combinations of groupings on the couch.
Vrinda’s father joined in on the shoot as well but wasn’t too keen on being in the entire shoot. He did, however, pop in for a few shots, and we photographed him sitting in the living room chair.
To round out the shoot, we headed outside into the front yard with the whole family, where we stood them under the trees for a few final group shots.
We had a lovely day with the Menoth family, and hope they love their photos as much as we enjoyed photographing them!
