A Beautiful Family Session at the Delta Lodge Kananaskis
We met up with the Pomeroy family at their hotel, the Delta Lodge at Kananaskis. Their company, Pomeroy Lodging, is currently amid renovating the resort with a 26-million-dollar upgrade. The Lodge was built in 1986, in time for Calgary’s 1988 Winter Olympics, and in 2002 it hosted the G8 summit. Boasting panoramic mountain views, it resides in Kananaskis Village, one of the most picturesque spots in the Rockies.
The Family Photoshoot
In the center of the property lies a beautiful pathway, lined with mini waterfalls and bridges. With Ryan, Allison, and their three young sons Zach, Josh, and Liam, we got set up for the family session. The boys were full of energy and were excited to climb on the rocks for the first round of photos. Josh was a little shy at first but warmed up to the camera right away. It was great to get the three little guys together in a shot, the majestic Rocky Mountains directly in the background.
We then brought Allison and Ryan into the shots, grouping them with the children in front of one of the lodge’s beautiful water features. Next came the individual shots, and the boys loved to say ‘Cheese’! The word would linger on and on, followed by big happy smiles. The kids got back together for a few shots on a bridge over the pond, and then we moved into a few shots of Allison and Ryan together. We stood them on a beautiful tree lined pathway, little flickers of light shining through the deciduous branches. After a few more shots by the waterfall, we cycled through different groupings, both parents posing individually with each of their sons.
Next, we moved over onto a wooden bench, and the kid’s caregiver joined in on the pictures.
Rock, Paper, Scissors Aficionados
After a few more bench groupings and a few goofy faces, it was time for a game. The boys and their dad struck up an intense round of Rock, Paper, Scissors, one of their absolute favourite pastimes. One of the best ways to get the boys really into the photos was to get them playing!
We moved back into the woods to wrap up the shoot, capturing some beautiful images of Allison and Ryan. Finally, we snapped a few quick shots of the boys playing in a bouncy house!
The deal was that once photos were done, Allison and Ryan would take the kids for ice cream! So, when we wrapped up, they were extremely excited, to say the least!
We had a wonderful day with the Pomeroy family at the Delta Lodge in Kananaskis. The weather was perfect, and the photos turned out terrific. We hope they enjoy their images as much as we enjoyed photographing them!
